OffShore

Like last year's RoyalOak Chrono facelift, the Offshore has just been granted two new faces. Love them, both. Surprising is the black Luminova used. A first at AP. Black luminova is not the greatest performance-vise but it is so beautiful when you drive into the darkens of a tunnel. It just glows in a very special way, almost eerie. So far collection pieces have been almost monochromatic so these new faces are refreshing and welcomed.

I am very glad these did not end up as a LE such as a "Tour Auto" or some obscure third-world dealer somewhere in the limitless boundaries of time and space...

Wondering what you mean by "third world dealer"?
An explanation is in order.

No need. "Third world dealer" means third world dealer.

In any case, what I really meant is that as an AP/RoyalOak/OffShore fan I am sick and tired to se Limited Editions for dealers in Malaysia, Dubai, Singapore, Kazakhstan... and yes, even the US, France, Italy, etc... only to flood the gray market with these watches within weeks of getting them. These guys use any excuse to milk the OffShore LE frenzy just because they can't sell the regular stuff. Grab a Pantone, order 50 and boom... they are all over eBay! They don't know yet but in the long run it will hurt them even more. Sooner or later the OffShore bonanza will come to an end. Sooner or later AP will stop, then try to convince your customers that the non-LE are worth buying. Good Luck.

If what really offends you is the term "third world" then I will try to clarify. I would not like to go into a Geopolitical debate since this blog is about watches. There are many terms that "politically correct" people refer to when talking about countries. (To my misfortune I am NOT one of these people.) "Emerging Economies" is a clean way to refer to these, yet it still is just another word for "third world". Or dare I say, a clean term for "third world with lots'o money recently". Sooner or later even this term will be sanctioned. It will be one day just as offensive as the term "third world" today. It is your right to be offended by it. Personally I do not regard the term "third world" as offensive. I consider few countries to be really "first world" (a handful) and curiously I would not choose to live in any of them. Either because they are boring as hell, the neighbors are to busy looking into your backyard or the weather just sucks.

Countries like Sweden, Norway or Holland I would consider "first world". They have elected officials, free education, politicians resign when scandals occur, few poor and few rich, freedom of religion, everybody "gladly" pays taxes (well... maybe not.), there are strict environmental policies, active recycling is not an urban myth, free healthcare, few strikes, clean and reiable public transportation, no smoking inside closed spaces, highways connect major cities, etc... If your country does not sound like this, dude... you are "third world", just like me. Welcome to the Club! Personally I am glad I don't live there. It is not my nature. Believe me, there is nothing wrong with living in a "third world" country. I have come to realize that I live in one myself.

Again, if you feel offended there is nothing I can do about it. Words are just words...

By the way... I will not allow insults of a personal nature, especially if they are targeting somebody that voices their opinion in good faith. I will immediately remove insulting comments to third-parties.

If you need to insult somebody, insult me. I started it.
